The latest Plumb Club 2025 industry and market survey reveals that American consumers’ interest in personalized jewelry and birthstones continues to rise. According to the survey, 65% of consumers prefer gemstone jewelry that includes birthstones. The proportion of people choosing bright-colored gemstones has increased by 7% to reach 39%, while the preference for neutral tones has dropped by 12% to 34%.
The report highlights that pearls remain the most beloved gemstone, with 81% of respondents favoring pearls, particularly as gifts. Among them, 52% choose white pearls for personal wear, while 25% prefer colored pearls. Half of the respondents like classic pearl necklaces, whereas 32% opt for modern styles.
Regarding metal preferences, 26% of consumers favor gold, 24% prefer white gold, and 23% favor platinum. Interestingly, 50% of respondents, regardless of color, tend to choose precious metals. In terms of jewelry types, 28% prefer rings, 24% select earrings (a 9% decline), and 23% favor necklaces (a 3% increase).
Among ring preferences, 46% of consumers choose designs featuring diamonds and gemstone embellishments, 30% prefer more intricate designs, and 24% favor simple bands. As for earrings, 51% select studs, 37% opt for drop earrings, and 32% like chandelier earrings.
Additionally, 69% of respondents consider personalization in jewelry important, with 64% expressing a desire to incorporate meaningful messages or symbols, such as initials or significant dates, to add sentimental value.
This survey is part of the 2025 industry and market report conducted by Paola De Luca and Qualtrics. A total of 2,000 American consumers aged 25 to 60 years, with household incomes above $75,000, were surveyed. The full report will be released on June 7 at JCK Las Vegas.
