Last month, Mr. Patrick Yuen, Founder and CEO of JDC Lab, was invited to attend networking event 2026 hosted by The Institute of Securities Dealers, where he and a host of industry leaders engaged in candid and constructive exchanges on Hong Kong’s positioning as an international financial centre, the strategic opportunities brought about by Greater Bay Area integration, and the policy dividends released by the country’s continued opening-up. All unanimously agreed that if Hong Kong is to hold its ground in the new round of global financial restructuring, it must take the initiative, fully seize the historic opportunities brought about by the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the country’s high-level opening-up, and truly unleash the market’s intrinsic momentum.

The securities industry is undeniably a core pillar of Hong Kong’s financial system. It not only bears the key functions of capital allocation, pricing and risk management, but also serves as an important bridge connecting the mainland with global markets. However, in the face of intensifying international competition, accelerating technological change and increasingly diverse investor needs, Hong Kong’s securities industry cannot rest on its laurels.

On this basis, fully accelerating innovation in products and services is the key to breaking through. Whether it is cross-border wealth management, ESG investment products, the compliance-based development of digital assets, or financial instruments related to deepening the Greater Bay Area mutual access mechanisms, all contain enormous room for development. Hong Kong is fully capable of, and indeed has the responsibility to, build a more dynamic international asset and wealth management centre, enabling global capital to find efficient, secure and diversified asset allocation channels here.

At the end of the reception, everyone expressed the hope that there would be more such high-quality exchange platforms in the future, allowing different stakeholders in the industry, including securities firms, asset management institutions, fintech enterprises, regulators and academia, to build consensus and jointly chart a way forward for the long-term development of Hong Kong’s financial industry. After all, the competitiveness of the financial industry can never be achieved by any single institution or any single leader alone; it requires the collaborative efforts of the entire ecosystem. As long as the industry works together with one heart, Hong Kong will certainly be able to open a new chapter amid changing circumstances, continue to consolidate its status as an international financial centre, and contribute its unique strength to the country’s financial opening-up and Greater Bay Area integration.
