No longer issue certificates for lab-grown diamonds !?

Many people have a question: Can lab-grown diamonds and possessing diamond certificates issued by recognized institutions like GIA and IGI qualify them as authentic natural diamonds?

JDC has always believed that natural diamonds are highly valued for their rarity, uniqueness, and profound cultural symbolism. Formed over billions of years, they carry the history of the Earth and the beauty of nature, offering irreplaceable emotional value and romantic significance. Additionally, natural diamonds tend to hold their value better in the market and are regarded as symbols of luxury and tradition, making them favored by high-end brands and collectors. While lab-grown diamonds offer advantages in affordability and environmental sustainability, the unique charm and deep connection to nature make natural diamonds the preferred choice for many.

However, in recent days, HRD Antwerp has announced it will stop issuing certificates for loose lab-grown diamonds to focus solely on natural diamonds, reinforcing its position as a global hub for the natural diamond industry. This strategic decision is aimed at creating a clear distinction between natural and synthetic stones, bolstering consumer trust in natural diamonds.

Karen Rentmeesters, CEO of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), emphasized the significance of this move, noting that it underscores HRD Antwerp’s commitment to safeguarding the future of natural diamonds. While the lab will cease certifying loose lab-grown diamonds starting in 2026, it will continue providing reports for jewelry containing synthetic diamonds and analyzing synthetics in limited cases for research purposes.HRD Antwerp’s renewed focus solidifies its stance as the first grading lab to exclusively champion natural diamonds, ensuring clarity and confidence for consumers worldwide.
