With the rise of lab-grown diamonds, the question arises: Does their growing popularity impact the value of natural diamonds? According to a report by the Natural Diamond Council (NDC), the average price of natural diamond jewelry reached $2,360 in 2024, marking a 2.7% increase from the previous year. Demand for diamonds ranging from 2 to 2.24 carats also saw an 18% growth.

Despite the higher cost-effectiveness of lab-grown diamonds, natural diamonds maintain their market dominance in the high-end jewelry and engagement ring sectors, thanks to their rarity and symbolic significance. Consumer preference for larger, higher-quality diamonds continues to rise.

Market data collected from over 2,000 U.S. jewelers indicates that round-cut, higher-carat diamonds remain the most sought-after choice, with demand for SI clarity and above (VS1 and VS2) significantly increasing. Engagement ring sales account for 33% of total jewelry sales, while the average price of engagement ring sets has climbed by 31%. Additionally, overall jewelry sales in 2024 grew by 5% compared to the previous year.

Although lab-grown diamonds are becoming more prevalent, natural diamonds continue to hold a strong market position, reflecting their enduring appeal as a meaningful and valuable gift choice—a symbol that remains difficult to replace.
